Wedding insurance

wedding insurance - key to your protection

Everything is set up and ready to go for your beach wedding. You are anxiously waiting for the big day to come and cross your fingers for everything to turn up smoothly.

However on thing you cannot control is the weather. If the weather is bad, you might need to move your wedding plans to an indoor venue. However if you have already make all the necessary bookings, if there is any changes due to unexpected weather conditions, can you get your money back or to reschedule your wedding?

If things seem uncertain, for e.g., you are getting married in Florida and you know that the hurricane season is from June to November.  But you have scheduled your wedding in between, and didn’t know what will happen. What can you do to protect yourself?

Besides indulging in the traditional solution of praying for good weather, there are some measures you can take to increase your security.

  • Include a clause for bad weather

If you have engaged a wedding consultant / wedding planner, make sure that there are provisions in the contract that states that in the event of bad weather, you could opt for wither a reschedule or refund.

  • Get a wedding insurance

Another option is to purchase a wedding insurance. This is gaining popularity as more couples want to be more safe than sorry on their big wedding day. Depending on the type of protection you envisage and the amount of deposit plus any contract obligations that is non-refundable, you can select a wedding insurance policy that meets your needs.

The premium is a one time fee and varies according to the coverage you want.

Another thing which you might not be able to recover from anyone is the emotional upheaval and disappointment that you might get, if your wedding plans are ruined due to bad weather.

Be prepared for any contingencies. You might need to prepare a wet weather program and venue in your initial beach wedding preparation planning.  Consult your wedding planner on the level of probability that such a situation might occur. But remember the wedding planner is not a weather forecaster and might only be able to give reasonable advice.
