Transportation to Lombok

There are a couple of ways to get to Lombok, depending on where you are from. The common method is to fly in, especially if you are residing in far way places such as the United States or Europe.

You might get a bit overwhelmed at the airport when you see hordes of people around. Do not worry as these people are usually relatives who are there in big groups to pick up their loved ones!

By air:

Contrary to most places, there aren’t many airlines that fly to Lombok. Most probably you have to do a transit via Bali, Yogakarta, Jakarta or Surabaya.

The domestic carriers that flies there are Merapati, Garuda, Lion Air, Wings Air, Adam Air, GT air .

Silk Air is another carrier which flies in from Singapore.

There is a 75,000 Indonesian ruppiah international departure tax per person and is payable upon departure at the counter at the airport. The domestic departure tax is at 10,000 Indonesian ruppiah. The tariffs are subjected to change.

Also if you are holding a foreign passport, not exempted, you would have to apply for a visa on arrival.

Alternatively you could fly in to Bali and take a ferry from there to Lombok. It is approximately 4 hours.

Pickup by resorts / hotels - if you have booked a resort or hotel, usually they would offer pickups. But do check with them on the charges, if any.

Metered Taxis - To commute between the city and the airport.

Moving Within Lombok

There aren’t many public buses or minivans (bemos) around as they are restricted to the main roads only. Thus the common way is to get around by motorcycles or cidomo (a pony driven cart). The ponies are reared in the nearby islands of Sumbawa and then transport over to Lombok.

If you are booking the transport via the hotel, most probably you would get around in cars.
