How to write wedding vows?

You might find that you have a hard time writing your wedding vows. You want something special and express your heartfelt thoughts for your loved one. If you are marrying in a traditional church or place of worship, you might find that they might have some guidelines for you to follow. It might not be as flexible as you might have wish.

For example, if you are a Catholic, your vows might read this:

I, ___________ take you, __________, for my lawful husband/wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness, and health, till death till us part.

You could get some inspirations from poetry or readings such as the classic in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare:

Or quotes:

Creating a personalized wedding vow shows your appreciation for each other and what you loved about your partner. Using a ready made, off the shelf type of wedding vows can never portrays the appreciation and special feeling you have for one another.

You could try to infuse things which you like for your partner or what he or she has brought into your life into your wedding vows.  

You could have something like this:

I am lucky to have you because ….. you love me with all your heart and shower me with your love

I appreciate… your patience and sweet tender loving smile that warms my heart…..

Whatever it is, do write something that portrays your innermost sincere feelings for each other.

Besides showing some personalized and special things about each other, you should also incorporate some promises. Do choose them carefully as it will enhance your marriage foundation.

Always have faith and trust in you

Embrace you and your family

If still, you still do not have the slightest inking of where to start, do build your vows around a theme. Modern vows also encompasses extracts from the lyrics of songs such as the sing “Can you feel the love tonight” by Elton John.

Whatever style you might finally choose in writing your wedding vows, do remember to be sincere. It is not a stressful exercise to write beautifully carved sentences but rather it is the sincerity which will move and touch your partner’s heart.
