Father of the Bride - Duties

Usually the Father of the Bride does minimal things. He would act as the host of the pre-wedding parties and walk the bride down the aisle.

Usually the father of the bride has to foot part of the wedding bill. However as the guy instinct, they might not be so inclined into the wedding preparation and usually leaves it to the mother of the bride.

Some father of the bride also helps to liaise with wedding vendors and making sure that things turn out well. They usually take the initiative to do the negotiation with the vendors and what they are looking for is usually quality and value.

However one thing to note as father of the bride is that you might find yourself trying to fit the occasion. If you have a suit which you have worn about 30 yrs ago, it might not be suitable for the occasion. Depending on the theme of the wedding, you might find yourself wearing a simple white shirt if it is a outdoor wedding.

The father of the bride has to speak a few lines at the wedding ceremony. So do be prepared for this. Do practice more prior to the event to familiarize yourself so that you would not stumble.

Do bear in mind on not to say the wrong stuff, especially if you tend to spill a few beans after some drinks. Remember; do not try to say which boyfriend you had fancied earlier or to ask someone for a job for your son-in-law, if it happens that he is thinking of relocating to your area.
